Macbeth, William Shakespeare’s tale of blood, kingship and ambition, was chosen as
this year’sSixth Year play, the first to be directed by Mr. Lar Duffy. Sam Gray,
Justin Ensor and Seán Conroy headed the cast, with Alex Rehill, on loan from Alexandra
College, featuring as Lady Macbeth. Students from Muckross Park and Alex also complemented
the cast of over thirty Gonzaga students. There was also room for three First Years
to act as boys in the show, most notably the performance of Robert Moran as Fleance.
Sets were designed and built by Mr. O’Connell and the senior Art classes, while Dan
Kelly managed everything backstage. The show played to large and appreciative audiences
who reacted well to the blood, love and rhetoric on display. The boys and girls communicated
the always-challenging dialogue with craft and aplomb, all of which made for an entertaining
evening’s theatre. The director would like to express his appreciation for their
efforts, not to mention his thanks for the support and encouragement from parents, colleagues
and students alike.
