Ultimate Frisbee News

Last weekend Gonzaga sent two teams to the All-Ireland Men's Indoors Ultimate Frisbee Championships in UL, Limerick. The two teams were made up of students from 3rd-6th year as well as some alumni coaches including David Ferguson, Cormac Bourke, Ferdia Rogers and Conor Casey. They competed against adult club teams and despite losing a couple of tight games, learned a huge amount and managed to finish a very impressive 12th and 15th out of 24 teams. Next up is the Dublin League Finals Day and then the Schools All-Irelands in April.

Parents' Council Talk 2nd February

The Parents' Council are holding a talk by Roger Grennan on Thursday, February 2nd at 7.30pm called: Rockstar? Pilot? Accountant? ... having great career conversations with young people. The areas covered during the talk will be: - A creative approach to opening up conversations about careers with young people - Ways to explore and discover your child's interests (and fields of fascination) - Exploring your child's natural strengths and abilities - Linking the above to how we look to make appropriate and relevant career choices - Practical ways to research and understand any job or career with online tools and information that is available. Fifth Year Musical: The Pirates of Penzance

Well done to the Fifth Years, Ms Dunne and Ms Keogh on their fantastic production of The Pirates of Penzance by Gilbert & Sullivan, which took place last week. See photographs of the show here.

Leinster Senior League Winners

Heartfelt congratulations to the Senior Rugby team, who have won the Leinster Senior League final 20-13 against Cisterian College, Roscrea, after a hard fought game. See photos here. Well done to all the players and their coaches, and thanks and commiserations to Roscrea.

BT Young Scientist Exhibition

Congratulations to the three TY students who exhibited at the BT Young Scientist Exhibition last week in the RDS. Kieran McGovern, Myles Ryan and Dan Morrissey conducted research on Brent Geese and their habitat in Sandymount. They met the President and had a very enjoyable few days in Simmonscourt. 4C visited the exhibition as part of their programme of cultural trips. See photographs here.

Chess News

The 15th Annual Gonzaga Chess Classic will take place in the College on Friday 27th - Sunday 29th January. Full details can be found here. The Classic is set to be the strongest FIDE weekend tournament in Irish history. With 5 GMs and several other titled players already entered, the competition is set to be very strong. All proceeds to Habitat for Humanity. The Leinster Junior Chess Championship took place in Bray in early January. Players represent themselves individually for the title of Leinster Junior Champion. Gonzaga had a clean sweep of the major titles. 1st Year Seán Hunter narrowly edged out Liam Ó Laoide (also a 1st Year in Gonzaga) to become Leinster U14 Champion. 2nd Year Henry

Swimming News

Well done to three teams of swimmers who performed very well at the Leinster Schools’ Swimming Championships in Tallaght on Sunday 8th January. A full report of the event can be found here.

Rugby News

Well done to the Senior team on their 36-3 win against St Andrew's in the semi-final of the Senior League on 15th December (see photos here). And hard luck to the Juniors who lost their semi-final to Newbridge College. Thanks to all our supporters. The League final vs. Roscrea will take place on Monday 16th January at 4pm in Donnybrook.
