Irish Young Philosopher Award

Many congratulations to Luke Rickard (S4D), who won the Irish Young Philosopher Award on Friday afternoon. Luke won the Individual-5th-6th year individual project award, the overall individual project award, the Technology and Ethics award, and the overall competition for his project entitled “Is it ethical for robots to be caregivers?” - He was delighted that he got to meet President Higgins. Zagapalooza 2018

Well done to everyone involved in this year's Zagapalooza for putting on a great show. The winner was JOBK (Joey Breathnach Kerins S6A) and best individual performance was awarded to Fullo (Oisin Fulham-Smith S6B). See photos here.

ISTA Junior Science Quiz

The annual ISTA Junior Science Quiz was held on Wednesday 9th May in Belevedere College SJ. Gonzaga entered two 3rd year teams. Our first team of Mark Mulvey, Mark Fahy and David Blake came in 3rd place after a tie-breaker question with Rosemont college with a finishing score of 41/48. Well done to our second team of Henri Li, Patrick Hickey and Alex Mc Hugh who finished with a score of 36/48. This year's competition saw a record breaking high of 49 teams entered from over 35 different schools. Well done to all. The competition finished with 1st place Blackrock College, 2nd place Sandford Park, 3rd Gonzaga College SJ.

Gaelbhratach faighte arís

Bronnadh Gaelbhratach ar Choláiste Gonzaga inné don cheathrú bhliain as a chéile. Is scéim spreagtha é an Gaelbhratach do scoileanna a dhéanann iarracht an Ghaeilge a chur chun cinn. Comhghairdeas ó chroí leis na daltaí agus leis na baill foirne atá ar an gcoiste as ucht a gcuid oibre. Bronnfar an brat ar an scoil níos déanaí i Mí Bealtaine. Gonzaga was awarded a Gaelbhratach this week for the fourth year in a row. This is a scheme to reward schools which promote the use of the Irish language. The Danny McNelis Regatta 2018, which was due to take place today, has been cancelled. Details will follow about a rescheduled date.

East Leinster Success

Well done to all our fantastic athletes who competed at the East Leinster track and field championships held at Morton Stadium over two days (Monday April 30th and Thursday May 3rd). Brennan Cup

Congratulations to Stan O'Beirne (S2B), who won first prize at last night's Brennan Cup. Second place went to Henri Li (S2D) and third to Patrick Murphy (S6C). Well done and thank you to all six finalists and three guest performers for a fantastic evening of music. It was a very fitting tribute to the late Fr Brennan and a celebration of his legacy. Many thanks to organisers Ms O'Brien and Ms Dunne, compère Dr Clark, adjudicators Finghin Collins and Simon Morgan, technical director Henry Cahill, and to Ross Brennan, nephew of Fr Joe, who presented the prizes. Yearbook photographs of sports and chess teams will be taken this Friday morning (4 May). Schedule: 08.30: Rugby Senior and Junior (TY rugby will be taken the week of TY exams), Cricket Senior and Junior 09.10: Frisbee, GAA, Tennis, Badminton, Basketball 09.50: Sailing, Athletics, Cross Country, Swimming, Table Tennis, Golf These photos will be taken in the PE Hall. Go to the Hall at the start of the relevant period. Don’t wait to be called. Bring gear for every sport you play. 11.30 am: Chess (on front steps outside Library) All other photos (debating, music groups etc) will be taken on Thursday 10 May between 08.30 and 10.30.

Golf News

Congratulations to the Junior golf team: Ross Whitaker (4D), James Quinn (3D) & Luke MacMahon (3C) on their recent performance in the All-Ireland stroke play finals in Monkstown GC, Cork. The boys competed in the finals as Leinster champions, playing against the three other provincial winners. Read more here.
