Leinster Schools Team Racing Championships

Two Gonzaga teams were among the eight entries in the 2019 Leinster School Team Racing championship held in the Royal St George Yacht club on Saturday 23 March. In the qualifying rounds, each team raced all the other schools in a round robin series. Racing in light winds that were extremely testing for all competitors, Gonzaga B team performed well and narrowly missed qualification for the final rounds. Gonzaga A team saw off all but one of their opponents leaving them top of the table. However, the quarter final proved a greater challenge with Gonzaga facing a talented and very determined Loreto Stephen's Green who pushed them to three races before being defeated. Daffodil Day

On Friday 22nd March 2019 Gonzaga will take part in Daffodil Day in aid of the Irish Cancer Society. Students are invited to wear yellow and donate €2. Daffodil pins will also be on sale for €3. Thank you for supporting this important cause which will directly or indirectly affect most of us in our lifetimes.

Senior Cup Final

St Michael's 28 - Gonzaga 5. Many congratulations to our Senior Cup team who reached the final in the RDS on St Patrick’s Day. Having entered the Cup as impressive League winners, they had secured tight victories over Castleknock, Terenure and Clongowes. Many congratulations are due to Head Coach Declan Fassbender, assistant Martin Fenlon, and coaches Ken Murray, Stephen McVeigh and James Kenny, plus Ollie O’Brien and Gareth Pelly who managed the team. Green Schools News

The Green Schools Committee is currently working on Gonzaga's sixth green flag: Global Citizenship - Litter and Waste. So far we have conducted a global awareness survey, a nationalities survey and a waste audit. We carried out litter pick ups on the school grounds and sold water bottles and travel mugs to encourage students to avoid single use plastics. ​We have also continued working on previous themes. For example, to promote biodiversity on the school grounds we recently planted 100 new native trees in a hedgerow in front of the walled garden. Well done to James O'Grady (Class of 2018), who was one of three students in Ireland to receive the IMTA award for the most meritorious performance in last year's Leaving Certificate Mathematics examination.

Ultimate Frisbee News

Many congratulations to the Senior Ultimate Frisbee team who retained their All Ireland Schools Championship title after a 6-5 victory in a tough final against St Fintan's yesterday .

Junior Cup Semi Final

Senior Cup Semi Final

Gonzaga are through to our first ever Senior Cup final after a 22 - 19 win against Clongowes Wood College SJ yesterday. Huge congratulations to everyone involved in this historic win, and thanks to the Clongowes team for a challenging game. Read a match report here.
