Football and hurling happen during the summer term generally. In the past, junior and senior students have played challenge matches against nearby school, a first year blitz and a competition for Jesuit schools.
The school hosts a poc fada competition each year and organises internal matches during Seachtain na Gaeilge and junior and senior football and hurling matches are played during this week.
We are very fortunate to have a huge amount of students playing with their club and county teams. Gonzaga College senior players took part in the TG4 show 'Thar an Trasnáin' with Seó Spóirt.
Congratulations to the Gonzaga Second and Third Years who were part of the Kilmacud Crokes team that won the Dublin Féile under 15 A hurling final in Parnell Park on Saturday 30 April, beating Ballinteer St John’s by 0-16 to 0-8. Congratulations to Ben Lynch in 4C who has been selected for the Dublin GAA Minor Hurling Panel 2022. He played in his first game for Dublin this weekend against Wexford. Ben is a member of Kilmacud Crokes GAA club.
Well done to our GAA players on some recent achievements with their clubs:
Transition Year students Charlie Quinn and Tom Brophy played for Faughs and Ben Lynch for Kilmacud Crokes in the U16 Division 1 Championship Hurling final a couple of weeks ago.
And four Gonzaga lads were instrumental in Clanna Gael Fontenoy winning their Minor Hurling Championship Final on 21 November: Liam Ó Laoide (Sixth Year), Jack Maree (Fifth Year), Luke Keelan (Class of 2021), Daniel O'Byrne (Sixth Year). This was a rare Double Minor win, as Daniel had captained the Clanna Gael Minor footballers to win their championship the previous Sunday, and Luke and Jack were also part of that team.
Congratulations to the five Gonzaga boys who won the Dublin Minor Division 1 Championship yesterday with the impressive Kilmacud Crokes.
Oisin Kirwan, Hugh Moran, Darragh Geraghty, Stephen McMahon, and David Colbert.
Well done to all the Gonzaga TY students who were part of the Ranelagh Gaels U16 boys football team that won Division 8 County Football League. This is a historic first boys title for the club. The very best of luck to Paul Wilson (5th Year) who is playing the All-Ireland Minor Football Final for Meath against Tyrone this Saturday in Croke Park. Everyone in the College is rooting for him and are very proud of his fantastic performances thus far in the competition.
We would also like to acknowledge the achievements of Davy Colbert (6th Year) and Stephen McMahon (5th Year) who represented Dublin this year in the Minor Intercounty Football and were defeated narrowly in the Leinster Final by Meath!
