Happy Christmas

Thanks to everyone who took part in Wednesday's dress up day for the Jesuit Refugee Service, and to everyone involved in the Christmas concert. See some photos of the day here. International Junior Science Olympiad

Well done to TY student Rohan Devereux, who competed at the International Junior Science Olympiad in Doha, Qatar, from the 3rd to the 12th of December. The Olympiad is a science competition for students under the age of 16. Rohan was one of 130 students invited to the Irish Junior Science Olympiad based on his Junior Certificate results. He was awarded a silver medal at the national Junior Science Olympiad and as a result qualified to represent Ireland internationally. Seventy different countries were represented by six students each at the Olympiad. Festive Fling Concert

Thank you and congratulations to all the performers and organisers of last night's wonderful Festive Fling concert. The event raised €2380 for Our Lady's Hospice and Care Services. See photos of the event here.

Senior League Winners

Very well done to the Seniors, who won their Leinster League final 24-0 against Roscrea yesterday. See photos here. And hard luck to the Juniors, whose League final ended a very close 26-24 to Presentation Bray. See photos of that game here.

Model United Nations

A very successful first outing for the Gonzaga delegation at the Model United Nations Conference in Mount Anville! Leo Phelan (5D) and Benjamin Bradley (4C) won distinguished delegate awards. The Gonzaga students are already looking forward to representing our school at future MUN events in Wesley College and St Andrews’s College in the new year.

Christmas Dress Up Day

Christmas Dress Up Day will take place on Wednesday 18 December 1st years – Santa's elves 2nd years – Santa's elves 3rd years – Santa's elves 4th years – Reindeer 5th years – Angels 6th years – Santas €2 for the Jesuit Refugee Service. The Green Schools Committee are organising a costume swap this Friday (13 December) to encourage students to reduce-reuse-recycle. If students have Christmas costumes (Elves, Reindeer, Angels, or Santas) at home that are not needed any more but are in good condition, they are invited to bring them in to the Library this week. All donations will be displayed in the Library at lunchtime on Friday and anyone will be welcome to take items to use in their costumes

Conor Biggs Concert

Sunday 15th December 2019, 3.00pm NCH John Field Room Conor Biggs, bass Michel Stas, piano Schubertreise - the performance of the complete Schubert songs by Conor Biggs (Gonzaga Class of 1978) and Michel Stas For their final recital of 2019, Conor Biggs and Michel Stas continue their voyage through mostly uncharted Schubertian territory. More celtic mythology in the Ossian setting Shilric und Vinvela; German mythology in Hermann und Thusnelda; a festive drinking song, Skolie; the exquisite miniature Der Jüngling an der Quelle, a shaggy dog story in Das gestörte Glück, and Beethovenian splendour in Dem Unendlichen.

Rugby News

Very well done to the Seniors who won their League semi-final 34-3 yesterday against Wesley College. See Mr Earley's photos of the game here. Best of luck to both Juniors and Seniors in their respective League finals next week.

Toy Appeals

If you would like to donate toys or cash for the Jesuit Refugee Service and SVP Christmas appeals, please do so by Friday 6th December. Donations can be left in Room 16 or given to Form Tutors. Thank you.

Educate Magis video

Educate Magis is an online education community that connects teachers and educators from Jesuit and Ignatian schools. In November five Second Year students from Gonzaga were interviewed by Ms Clarke on their experience of using Educate Magis for their Justice Projects. Their contribution has been included in a very informative video for Education Delegates and teachers. Watch it here.

Festive Fling Concert 12 December

On Thursday 12 December we will be hosting our annual TY charity concert in the College Chapel. The event is run to raise funds for Our Lady's Hospice, a charity close to the school’s heart. The show will start at 7:30pm sharp. Tickets are available from the event organisers who will be going class to class this week, and on the door on the night. It is €10 for adults and €5 for students. There will be a raffle and refreshments on the night. All welcome
