Green Jersey Day 29 May

Green Jersey Day, 29 May 2020, is an initiative to encourage support and collaboration of all involved in our Gonzaga Community, including Students, Parents Groups and Alumni. On the last day of term, 29 May 2020, we ask everyone in the wider Gonzaga Community to put on a Green Jersey, take a picture (a selfie or family group photo) and email it to Ms McNamara for publication on the school website, (or use in next year’s Gonzaga Record), or posting to the Gonzaga Instagram page. We can all wear the Gonzaga 'Green Jersey' together. Just as on other Green Jersey Days there is also an optional fundraiser – has been set up as a donation portal and donations will be divided

2B Fundraiser for Pieta House

World Bee Day

It's World Bee Day, so let's celebrate these amazing creatures who play a vital role in our ecosystem and food chain. You can spot several species of bee on our school grounds, especially around the walled garden and in the 'Managed for Wildlife' areas near the back gate, where the long grass and wildflowers provide them with food and habitat. Think, how can you help pollinators where you live? Even letting the grass grow a bit longer can make a difference. Photos by Ms McNamara For more ideas on how you can help bees, see here.

Class of 2020 photo collage

Mr Pelly put together a fantastic photo collage which was shown at a 'virtual graduation assembly' for the Class of 2020 on Friday. You can watch the video here.

3 Schools,1 Book: winner announced

Thanks to everyone who voted in our first ever 'Battle of the Books' to choose a big summer read for students, parents, staff and alumni of Gonzaga College SJ, Belvedere College SJ and Clongowes Wood College SJ. We are delighted to announce that the winner is 'The Body: a Guide for Occupants' by Bill Bryson. We encourage as many people as possible to read the book over the summer and we hope you enjoy Bryson's entertaining and informative investigation of this fascinating topic.

Sports Day at Home

Thanks and well done to everyone who took part so enthusiastically in our 'Sports Day at Home' event on Saturday for Pieta House. Gonzaga pupils, parents, staff and alumni took to their gardens and local green spaces to walk, run, cycle, and play all sorts of sports, and many donated to the 'Darkness into Light' appeal. Click on 'Read More' to see all the photos. If you have any more photos of the day, please email them to Ms McNamara.

Sports Day 2020

Saturday 9th May would normally be the Gonzaga College Sports Day. Unfortunately we will not be able to run the event this year due to Covid-19 restrictions. What we would like to propose as an alternative to Sports Day is that we as a community on the day would take part in some physical exercise: a run, a walk or a cycle, within current restrictions. As the day coincides with Pieta House’s annual fundraising appeal, we would ask if possible that you make a donation to the Darkness into Light appeal. Like many charities, they have had to cancel their main fundraising project this year and would be really benefit from any help we can give . To show our support for mental health awareness

'The Full Story' writing competition

To help showcase the amazing creativity of our students, Belvedere College SJ, Clongowes Wood College SJ and Gonzaga College SJ are running our very first annual ‘Tri-College’ writing competition. We are also delighted to announce that the author Dave Rudden will be the independent adjudicator for this year and has also agreed to run a writing masterclass with the winning and shortlisted students. There are two categories: Junior (1st to 3rd Year) and Senior (4th to 6th Year). The winning entry in each category will receive a €100 voucher and the runner(s)up a €50 voucher. Winning and runner-up pieces will be published in all of the respective College Yearbooks. Best of luck to you all and
