Global Red Chair Project

Students from Ms Clarke's 3rd Year Religion class researched and raised awareness as part of the global Jesuit Red Chair project, which aims to highlight the fact that millions of children around the world do not have access to education. Read more here.

Gaelbhratach Bronnta

Bronnadh Gaelbhratach ar Choláiste Gonzaga inné don tríú bhliain as a chéile. Is scéim spreagtha é an Gaelbhratach do scoileanna a dhéanann iarracht an Ghaeilge a chur chun cinn. Comhghairdeas ó chroí leis na daltaí agus leis na baill foirne atá ar an gcoiste as ucht a gcuid oibre. Gonzaga was yesterday awarded a Gaelbhratach for the third year in a row. This is a scheme to reward schools which promote the use of the Irish language. Many congratulations to the students and staff on the Gaelbhratach committee for all their hard work.

Green Flag Awarded

Members of the Green Schools Committee yesterday collected Gonzaga's fifth green flag at a ceremony in The Helix. The theme of this flag, which the committee has worked on for the past two years, is Biodiversity. As part of the programme they made a habitat model of the school, planted new trees and flowers, gave presentations about biodiversity to first year students, and organised several activities to highlight the wealth of plant and animal species to be found in the school grounds.

Rugby Documentary DVDs available

Copies of 'The Green Storm' documentary (45min long) about the Senior Gonzaga rugby team, which tells the story of the most successful season in Gonzaga rugby history, are available to purchase in Room 50 and in the School Library. They cost just €10 each with ALL proceeds going to Epilepsy Ireland. Parents and Past Pupils are very welcome to order copies by emailing Mr Séamus Connor. [if !supportLineBreakNewLine] [endif]

Swimming News

Swimmers from Gonzaga recently took part in the Irish Senior Schools Relays gala in the National Aquatic Centre. The results were as follows : Senior 200m Medley Relay - 4th place Senior 200m Freestyle Relay - 4th place Senior Team - Conor Maher (6B), Sam Victory (5D), Stephen Herlihy (6B) & Michael Gilligan (5B) - (all improved on their Leinster Schools Championships splits) Inter 200m Medley Relay - 5th place Inter 200m Freestyle Relay - 5th place Inter Team - Kieran McGovern (4C), Joe Gilligan (3D), Seamus O'Sullivan (3B) & Noah Maguire (1A) Well done to all.

Message from Parents' Council

Summer Exam Timetable

Summer exams for 1st, 2nd, TY and 5th Year students take place during the week beginning 29th May. The timetable can be accessed here.

TY trip to Killary 22-26 May

The Transition Year outdoor pursuits trip to the Killary Adventure Centre will take place on Mon 22nd - Fri 26th May. For details please see here. A full list of what to bring can be found here. NB All students must bring a sleeping bag and mat.

Danny McNelis Regatta

The Danny McNelis Regatta took place on Friday 12th May in the INSS in Dun Laoghaire. More than 30 boys took part and everyone had a great day. The overall winner's were Henry Start’s team consisting of Henry as captain and Finn Cleary, Max Tempany, Euan O’Riordan, Spencer O’Connell and Michael Sullivan. They were presented with the trophy by Bríd and Niall McNelis. Thanks to everyone involved.

Sports Day Saturday 13th May

Sports Day 2017 takes place this Saturday, 13th May, beginning at 1.30 pm. See here for full schedule and here for the competition rules.

Yearbook photographs

Yearbook photographs will be taken on the following days. Students should be in full winter uniform when necessary and bring appropriate gear for each sport they are involved in. Friday 12th May: All sports except tennis, 1st year cricket, and 1st, 2nd, and TY rugby. Tuesday 16th May: Tennis; all non-sport groups (e.g. prefects, chess, debating). Wed 24th May: 1st and 2nd year rugby, 1st year cricket. Monday 29th May: TY rugby. Tuesday 30th May: 4th Year class photos, SVP committee.

Zagapalooza

The Coulson Theatre was packed out last night for Gonzaga's annual battle of the bands, Zagapalooza. Well done to all the performers and organisers for a terrific show. The winners were Cormy G and the 123s (Cormac Gunning, Darragh Kelly, and Mark Brennan), pictured. Second place went to Tenacious Bean, and third to Two Door Coulson Theatre Club. Brennan Cup 2017

Well done and thank you to the organisers, judges and competitors in last night's Brennan Cup final for a beautiful and uplifting evening of music. The six finalists - Cian Fahy (3D), Stephen Herlihy (6B), Stan O'Beirne (1B), Henry Li (1B), Patrick Murphy (5C) and Jack Doherty (6C) - all performed wonderfully and judges Fr Brennan and Dr Clark faced a very difficult task in picking the winners. In the end third place was awarded to Cian Fahy, second place to Stan O'Beirne and the Cup went to Stephen Herlihy. Thank you to Ms O'Brien and to Ms Dunne for organising.

Leinster Rugby Awards: School of the Year

Congratulations to everyone involved in Rugby this year. At its awards ceremony on Saturday night, Leinster Rugby named Gonzaga as School of the Year. Also big congratulations to Conor McKeon (class of 2013) who won Academy Player of the Year in the Connacht Rugby awards.
